Another King crab season has come and gone. Rationalization has claimed the jobs of at least 800 crabbers. The Rollo will luckily continue to fish. Discovery Channel filmers Jeff and Todd kept us talking. Meanwhile coreyfishes has been busy shooting stills for the Discovery Channel, Dagbladet Søndag, and Widerø airlines magazine in Norway. Ripe Magazine out of Vancouver has some Coreyfishes images inside, and Stay Honest magazine in NYC will have a nice series of my horny cat coming out soon. The Coreyfishes exhibition “Crabbing in the Bering Sea: photographs from the F/V Rollo 2003-2005″ at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle opened on Thursday. A nice turn out and a lovely spread of cheeses and pickled herring as well as an open bar made for a pleasant evening that quickly became morning. The photos will be up until the end of February. Anyone thinking about buying a print should consider it a fundraiser for my Norway fishing project!

From the King Crab Grounds

November 1st, 2005

From the King Crab grounds in the Bering Sea, Alaska.

Another week of whaling aboard the Bolga has produced zero whales once again. Bad weather conditions have spoiled our luck. The season has come to an end and the bloody whale photos will have to wait until next year! In other news, me and the crew of the F/V Rollo have been chosen to star in next seasons episodes of “Deadliest Catch” on the Discovery Channel. If you haven’t seen the show yet (I haven’t), I heard some of the other crabbers say its a decent show. Here is a link to the “Deadliest Catch” homepage.

Vardoe Fish Factory Exhibition

Corey Arnold exhibition in norway

Last week in Vardø, Norway a former fish factory was transformed into a massive exhibition space housing 11 artists and photographers. It was one of Vardøs biggest art events and an experimental success. Here are some photos from my section, “Fishscapes Finnmark”. Another set of my photos can be found at the Hamningberg Handel Galleri in Hamningberg, Norway. Thanks to the German ex-patriot Mott Whyte for making this happen. I will no doubt return soon to Vardø. Arctic Char fishing in the nearby lakes is spectacular.
